Universal clear is an excellent clear. What other hs clear would you compare it to?

Kent, your vivid imagination never fails to amaze me- lol-but totally agree with your views on universal clear. People on mood enhancers can probably reduce or discontinue use when using this clear. It sure has made my life easier no doubt.

The look is what does it for me, and there's no fight with buffing like some of the major brand "premium" clears.

Maybe,HOK's top end,I've never sprayed ANYTHING even close to IT,SPI that is.Possibly Nason's top end which IMO was the "old" DuPont Chroma 7500 series.SPI's Universal is a "soft" clear,Meaning,Yeah it WILL scratch easier than "production" clears,But is an almost "idiot proof" spray.will last a lifetime and will buff out back to it's original finish.I've used Uni.for years now and outside of the MS,for custom work,will NOT use anything else.Barry hit THIS one,OUT OF THE STATE IMO.BEST bang for the buck you can buy.I did a tailgate long ago and was "concerned" about the finish clear compared to the OEM and made the "mistake" of buffing it out.When I hung the gate on the truck,I was amazed at the difference. I offered to reclear it in a "worse" state in order to "match" the OEM,but the owner said NO,I'm trading it in anyway for another.

I think you can compare it to PPG 2002 DCU clear.. Ive used both..It was my goto premium clear until I found spi long ago.. Ive used all the spi clears except the productiuon clear.. It is a great product and while I fell in love with the Euro clear for dark colors and how fast it quit scratching, I have learned how to get the same performance out of the Universal just recently with the addition of polar.. .. For me its the ultimate clear SPI sells and I keep it stocked

I love the way the 2002 sprays also. we do a bunch of harley re-builders all the time, so we use tons of it. Only problem is die back when you get it on even a little heavy. I wanna order some SPI, but I need to convince the body shop manager the die back is mostly ppgs deal. Will SPI help me cure this problem??

2002 is the closest thing to the universal, so close we have had shops over the years stop using the 2002 and ask if they can use up their last quart or two and then spray the universal over it.
I tell them to activate the 2002 and activate the universal, and mix them together with no problem.
Where the Universal stands out is you won't see the die-back if you go over the two coats like 2002, nor will you lose clarity after three coats.

Universal clear
This is just a few jobs I have done with universal clear. 2 coats wet 10min flash. Going to try the perfect paint job on my own collector car.

Buffs and sand ez, I use nothing less than 1500 wet sand grit

Polar Accelerator. Speeds up the cure in colder Temps but needs some gun time before just dumping it in.
I have some but never used any. Some say it makes the Clear harder. Viagra for it I suppose.
A lot of members go the opposite way with Retarder for better flow out time even in milder Temps.
Even my old user name posting shortly before I quit painting the first time.

I was just searching about clears and ran across this. I'm new at it and got the -----@--------- euro clear and I can still put a fingernail impression in it after 2 months so come to the conclusion it must be a soft clear so I was looking for something better and harder.

The only one I consider as good now is the 2002 PPG, I said that for years.
7800 glamor clear was great but that's gone.
None of the old great clears by the other companies are worth talking about now as
The great ones are gone.
Now they put an $850 cost on a clear and because of the price will be assumed by the buyer to be a great clear.
By the way, I don't rate a clear how it sprays, usually the lower solids and crapier the clear the better it sprays.
Needs clarity and long life.
Bean counters are killing this industry.
