Windshield, now or later?

Im in the stripping/bodywork stage of my project and before i even started it needed a new windshield. Im painting the entire vehicle, should I have the windshield replaced now or wait till I paint everything? What does the windshield adhesive stick best to? Im assuming its not clear coat but thats why I ask...

get the glass out now and clean up the channel and prime and paint as normal. windshield can be installed after.

Are you letting a glass shop do it?

I'm certainly no expert on glass installation...but I know ICAR teaches "no urethane on fresh paint". Their process is bare metal, epoxy, urethane....then glass installation. This of course on new window channels without any previous urethane adhesive.

Reason I said above to prime and paint as normal is, the glass shop will know what to do when you take it to them or when they come out.

You don't want to remove and replace a windshield in the middle of a fresh paint job. If you find any rust under it can be dealt with.

its a 92 Bronco being stripped to bare metal bumper to bumper. I am going to have a professional shop come do it. Not a concours resto but it will be done very nicely. Maybe after I hit the truck with epoxy and im ready for base coat I can tape off the flange the windshield gets sealed to.. that way its fresh epoxy for the window guy

I think that would be ideal. After bare metal, epoxy the channel and keep it taped up during the primer sessions. (keep uptaping and re-taping). That would give you the strongest bond.
