where's the preferred place to cut a panel?

Just picked up an 88 toyota EFI PU, no bed, 47K original miles has been garaged, that needs a graft.
I only went this route cause the graft was sitting with the truck. And I'll be into it finished for the price of a 'barely driver':highly_amused:
Basically the drivers side from just past the A pillar to the middle of the back window, top to floor the whole corner has to be replaced.
Truck top skin is good so I was going to just cut about 6" in from the drip rails as that would let me planish welds easily as I go and keep the orig top.

My question is if it matters where I cut below the window and across the floor?
Weld one straight line up, over and through the panel beads or follow the path so to speak and stay near a bend or even on the bends and follow the natural topo as it were?
I can tell myself reasons for and against each but honestly I do not know.

My guess is a proper weld shouldn't matter... but shrinkage seems easier to control along a fold/bend than mid way. Yes?No?
Thanks
