What grit for epoxy over multiple substrates?

It's occurring to me that during blocking of filler/2k over my epoxy, I will likely have break through to bare metal. I believe bare metal should have an 80 grit metal for the epoxy but the filler should have 180 or more. I can imagine a scenario in which I have blocked through my 2k and need to spot epoxy a small area that will have exposed filler, bare metal, epoxy, and even original paint. What grit would be best for prepping that whole area? Thanks!

Generally your first round of block sanding should be with coarser grits. You are trying to achieve a flat, even surface and to do that you want a grit that cuts without having to press too hard on the sanding block. Once you get the panel straight you shoot some more 2k and then move up to the higher grits. Should also use a guide coat when block sanding.
Epoxy primer will adhere to 180 scratches as long as the metal is clean.

Interesting. So basically, if I'm still at the point where I panel is bad enough that I'm breaking through, I would be using something like 180 anyway which would be fine to the re epoxy over? Or is 2k ok to go DTM in small doses?

180 works well ,always epoxy any bare metal before 2k even small spots
