Tips and tricks for buffing with wool?

that looks really good from the pictures.

of course the whole point of the da process is that it saves time and makes it easy. 99% of all my sanding and buffing is done on spi clears. they do buff easy. the few times i have tried to do single stage, its definitely a little harder. utech for instance sands easy but buffs harder while imron sands hard but buffs easy. neither as easy as spi clear. on spi clears, if you do the whole sanding process right then it should literally buff effortlessly in seconds. one pass with compound/wool and it should be glowing. you shouldn't have to work anything. a final polish to make it glow and your done. just keep in mind when your doing that ss, you may need to sand certain grits more. i really dont know as every paint seems to be different in how it acts.

Every project I’ve done before this has been universal clear. I’d only go up to trizact 3000 with that and then hit it with CG V32 on a foam pad and it would shine brilliantly instantly.

This single state is definitely harder. Sands harder and buffs harder. And if it’s slicked out and I need to go back and resand a section, it’s very hard to sand. The part just glides over the top and barely cuts. 3000 or 8000 won’t cut if it’s buffed.

what i have found with utech is that if i get on it and start sanding while its softer, say 24 hours old, its harder to actually get a shine on it. i feel like i am trying to put a shine on rubber. maybe with it being fresh that the sandpaper grit cuts deeper (guessing) making it harder to buff or work the scratches out with finer grits. i found if i let it sit maybe 3-5 days or so that whole process seems to work easier. cure time may be playing a big factor in the trouble you were having. could be it hasn't cured enough or maybe its cured too much.

My panels aren’t fresh. I get all the painting done in the warm months so I can do my buffing in the cold months.
