thoughts on this hood

It's hard to tell from the photo, but I think the rust has progressed under the front lip of the hood into the inner structure.

It’s an “older” legacy. I would just put my time into prepping a new hood even if it’s aftermarket. It’s better than what they have now. And it’s the same she would get from insurance if she got hit. It’s not like it’s an unobtainable classic body panel. I’m not restoring hoods on daily drivers and risking a comeback. And honestly they’d probably be further ahead financially paying me to replace the hood than repair.

I'm seeing old legacy hoods going for $200-$500 around here online. I wouldn't think twice about replacing it.
Depending on the year fitment, the yard I use has 4-5 of them with a cost of $55.43 and a $3 core charge.

the bubbling paint along that lip caught my attention, too. ill be talking to her and seeing it in person later today. we shall see if my feeling of "walk away" changes but I don't think it will- even if she looks like the woman in Chris Hamilton's avatar. :)

I hate when things pop into my head like......she's already been paid ($1,200) for the repair by her insurance company. She has already spent $400 on lipstick and pantyhose leaving $800 for the repair.

$800 and the job is yours :)

.....it's happening again, another thought popped into my cranium...... have a decal made that looks like the damage on the hood. When you go over there to look at the vehicle, place the decal on the trunk.

When your about done speaking with the lady about the hood, say....bye the way, would you like the hood price to include a price to fix the damaged trunk lid?

welp, that went well for me anyways. I didn't get any pics but didn't take long after Poppin the hood to say replace. I don't know what happened. was told no overheating, no fire but something happened as the underside looked like the top except less rust. the front lip in one dime size spot is held together by the paint and the rest was quite rusty. the rest of the vehicle is actually very clean. .
I told her I wouldn't touch it unless the hood was replaced. she was a bit insistent it could be repaired which I agreed but would cost more than replacing. shes still looking for a shop to fix it I wished her the best of luck.
