A friend wants me to paint some fender flares. I’ve painted some before but they weren’t textured.
Some reading suggests I sand it off. I’m afraid I’ll just make a mess of them doing that. Will be painted a silver birch metallic so if the sanding isn’t perfect it’s going to show in the end product.
Thinking I could spray with high build after ad pro. Not sure if three coats would fill these?
Also another question theirs one spot with a ding. See pic. Assuming I could just bondo over that small of an area?
Thanks.

I don't know if this is the ideal way, but I've done it a few times and it looked good to me. I wet sanded them with 220 to remove about half of the texture, then Ad Pro, then 2 coats of epoxy. Then after sitting a day or so, I wet sanded them with 320 until I just started to see the black again. Then 2 more coats of epoxy. Sit another day, then 800 and straight to base coat color. The gouge can be filled after the first epoxy.

Ok I think i'll hand sand them a bit with 180 first, there's some road rash to flatten out.See where that goes.
