Friends, I have questions regarding SPI sealer. I know I can mix SPI epoxy to seal with but I need something that I can top coat over sooner, as I will have a booth and my time in it will be very limited.

First off, what color sealer would be best? My car will be painted Gulfstream Aqua (BC/CC), same color in my avatar. This color is a metallic. It will be applied over blocked gray SPI high build primer?

Secondly, approximately how much, quantity wise, to seal a fastback Mustang?

Lastly, what would be the recommended sanding grit for applying it to the high build? I've read 400 for solids and 600 for metallics but when using a sealer, I can go 400 grit.

You can base over SPI epoxy mixed 1:1:1 as a sealer in 20-30 minutes give or take. A light grey would work, the sealer mixed as described isn't going to cover solid but you mentioned you are starting from grey SPI high build. Apply the sealer like it it's the first coat of base.
To bad you are going to be limited for time in the booth, better results come from letting that base gas out overnight. Can you arrange it so
you can do the sealer/base at the end of a day and then clear first thing in the morning?

Thanks metalman! Sounds like I'm just as good to go with the SPI epoxy as my sealer and not incur the cost of an additional materials.

Yes, on the base gassing out overnight. There's a recent post on that here and I'm going to try and make that happen but it may not.
 
I know Crashtech answered the question in the primer thread. Your safer finish sanding with 600 if you want to use the epoxy sealer mixed 1:1:1 (50%).
If mixing the epoxy sealer thicker 1:1:1/2 (25%), you need to wait longer before base, and if you need to move along with the booth time limited that won't work.

The info says to spray with a 1.4. If it is thinned as a sealer 1:1:1/2 will make it thinner. I have a small compressor and a Iwata LPH80 124G Baby /Mini Gun. Will it be thin enough to shoot through a 1.2 ?

Ok. I will mix it and shoot it. Still waiting on continuous 70 degrees weather. Still have cooler nights and mornings. Making a DIY spray area in garage. Wish me luck!
