Spi red ??

Looking for a bright red for my 69 mach1 project, was considering the new ford Race Red(see it on the new f150's alot). Wondering how close Spi red was to it.
After pricing what it would cost me to mix it off my SW 7000 or PPG Dbc bank , Spi red would be about 1/2 $.
Thinking of 2 options if I use Spi red, 1-do the standard base, clear, sand ,reclear. Or 2-use spi single stage red , sand, then clear.
What do we think?

Either way it will look outstanding. In my opinion you are just splitting hairs. You may gain some durability going single stage, and capping with clear, as the base coat is the weakest link in the system. If you activate your basecoat, and it sounds like it's a show car, I'm not sure there is much advantage either way. If it scratches or chips in either system, you will have to repair it anyway, and base/clear to me is easier to touch-up. Good luck!...btw the spi as you already know is very bright and beautiful for a muscle car application.

I would not waste my money on anything else if you want a bright blinding red in the sun than SPI Red is what you want. I painted my 1968 Mustang and 1967 Fairlane SPI red.

Which route did you go single or base?
