SPI Epoxy over PPG with Wash

The problem with the Internet is you really don't know the qualifications of the person(s) responding. Are there people that swear by PPG or Dupont or SPI you bet, heck there are people that swear by Kirker but how many have really used each product and care make accurate comparisons of each companies product? Yes I bought and used PPG DX1791 and the DPLF epoxy primer - why because it is a product sold by a big name company and I thought I would be safe using these if I followed the tech sheets. I haven't done the laquer thinner test because I don't know if the product is even designed/expected to be able to handle that. Now all I am trying to figure out is if I apply the SPI epoxy over any break throughs (from sanding that will epose the wash primer) will it work? I gotta be honest with you a home hobbiest really doesn't know the best brands to buy, nor are they chemists. I read multiple forums and made a decision to try SPI; will I have a problem? Is the warning about not using etch or wash primers with SPI because that epoxy doesn't need it or will it not adhere or something else? I am not trying to argue and I appreciate all the responses. Thanks

The reason SPI states not to use over etch is not because it won't work in place of DPLF, I have used both, and SPI epoxy is superior to DPLF in every way.

I will give you a clue as to the reason Barry asks for his product not to be used on ANYTHING but bare metal for best results:

If you have a failure down the road, are you more likely to blame PPG's wash primer, or SPI's epoxy primer?

So picking between DPLF and SPI, you have a better chance of success with SPI, but the whole job is compromised forever by the presence of antique technology 1K primer, and SPI does not want the blame for this.

When substrate failures occur, it can be difficult to determine the cause, but you can bet the blame game will be happening since such failures represent a TOTAL redo of the vehicle.

google experts...gotta love'em . dumb as a tree stump but will argue with a professional all day long. those who listen to them get no sympathy from me. demand proof . there are a couple of experts out there that have no proof what so ever that they have ever done anything other than hack work if that much. be careful who you listen to .
