spi black ss

I read in an early post that the spi black ss is more gray than black black. I am looking for something with no brown or gray tint to the finished product. Would I be wise to look elsewhere, and if so I am open to
suggestions, raven or mercedes black possibly. I am still using spi epoxies, etc. thx
 
I have no idea where you read SPI black is gray.The new formula black is the blackest of blacks , makes new Toyota black look cheesy.

I don't know about the old formula SPI black, it may have had some gray tone .
 
Thanks, I didn't make it up, it was august 2011, jim c wrote it was very gray, not black. The formula for black has obviously been redone since that post. I appreciate the input and will go with the new black. thanks again

I kind of remember that post now that you mention it.
Barry spent a lot of time developing the new black with the goal of it being the blackest of blacks, I think you will like it.
 
This was painted a long time ago with SPI single stage and no clear looks black to me

And that example rusty posted was done with the old Black, the new black is much better/cleaner/darker.
 
yes the old black from a few years ago was completely different and was brown. the new stuff is great. the black basecoat especially. its the blackest black i have ever used. the new black single stage is extremely black as well. i dont think its quite as black as the basecoat but its darn close. really splittin hairs there. the real way to tell if a black is truely black is either side by side with other blacks in direct sun or with a flashlight/ sungun. just looking at them doesnt tell you anything. gotta put a light right up on them. most blacks even from the big companies look grey under direct light. i have a panel with spi,rm,sikkens and limco supreme. all jet black. spi is hands down the blackest, then rm then sikkens and limco last.
