Some opinions on how much is enough!!

I just sand blasted the top of my jeep Cherokee this past weekend. I was going to DA it 80 grit to smooth or catch any places I missed. Between my eye sight and blasting hood lens my odds were high that I would miss a spot or two. My question is there is small areas of the old primer left. I can DA those and you really have to angle the DA to get them off. I was wandering if I ran the DA over them and smoothed them out would that be good enough? Or do I need to have the metal shine all over? I will be shooting 2 coats of epoxy.
I appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks.

Usually you think if its that hard to get off it must be ok to stay there, I would just rather have the same fresh metal all over the job. The one place you leave is the first place you will worry about. Plust its really clear that SPI wants nothing between their epoxy and the metal.

Best advice here was to get some coarser paper to just get thru most of the paint and finish it off with the 80 to keep it consistent.

Well I have to admit I was thinking I need to get every last discoloration. I had been going over it with the 80 grit and you can't feel it with your fingers when you sweep across those areas. It is just a very thin coat of the original primer that is left on there. I just wasn't sure if they would show up after it's all painted.

I agree with crash.
get out your angle grinder!. DA is slow on old paint

You talking about using 80 grit. I was concerned it may leave some deep undercut or scratches in the steel.

I wouldn't worry about that, by the time you epoxy, fill, 2k and block itle be gone but if you are worried they sell scotch bright type ends that work well for paint removal with minimal impact to the metal

That sounds good to me. Depending on how much it rains this weekend I hope to shoot the epoxy. I have it in my basement but the humidity can get high with all the moisture in the air. We didn't have a 1/2" rain all Sept. but when I start something like this the weather seems to change. Appreciate all the advice.

Yea that's how it is in Montana. Weather is always the big unknown. 40 one day and 75 the next. Good luck and hope it all works out for ya
