Hi all, With the help of Spi and its members i resprayed the nose of my car, bumper, hood, front fenders...I am noticing scratches are starting to re appear in clear coat..My coatings were spi 2k regular primer over prepared OEM finish, Dupont chromabase, Spi production clear..I am fairly certain all my sanding and blocking with guide coat in the primer stage were done okay... I wet sanded the 3 coats of clear, compounded and polished to my satisfaction..I did the paint correction in stages, so about 3-10 days after the clear was applied. The clear was probably sprayed about 3 1/2 weeks ago.The car actually sat in the sun today for a few hours, about 73 degrees. When doing initial paint correction, after compounding, I started using the 3d aca 520 but for some reason i didnt like the way it was wiping off, maybe i was using too much product. I then used 3m Perfect-it step 2 polish...Soo, what do we think is going on here?..Perhaps coatings are shrinking?..Maybe the 3 M polish has fillers in it and are wearing off?...( i doubt it)... I have plenty of clear left to do another round of compound and polishing...Thanks

You should compound with 3D ACA 500 on a wool pad before moving to polishing with 520 on a foam pad. Their wool pad works well imho.

3M products have a reputation of doing that.

I used the 710 W&G remover between steps to check progress. It removes the compounding fillers so you can see what's going on.
And, I've been using the ACA 510 with the 3m double sided pads.

Keep in mind that production clear will get harder faster than universal. It’s going to take some time and effort to compound and polish versus universal. That’s why I recommend compounding with a wool pad and 500 compound.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the responses! I mostly only used 1500 and 2000 g for cutting..I removed most of the orange peel.My wet sanding skills by hand could be improved.I would have used a da, but i do not have one..For compound, i used both M105 and the Aca 500 with different wool pads on a rotary. For the polishing, i used a random orbital with a white foam pad. I did not clean the panel with W& G remover between steps- I should have-... Im sure with another round of compound and polish, with a more methodical approach, ill be fine....And yes, Don, i definitely do have some time and effort into the correction of the clear- No more 3M for me, at least not the polish, unless their newer products have improved... The 3m Perfect-it 2 polish i have is at least a few years old...Ill use only the 500 and 520 on the next round
