question on painting Hide away Headlights

In installing a new grill in my 69 camaro and i need to paint the plastic to match the color of the car. my question is what do I use? do I need to use an adhesion promoter or can I just use epoxy primer? thanks for any help i can get!

Cut a small sliver off the backside of the grill that will never be exposed.. Drop it in a cup of tap water.. If it floats, use adhesion promoter.. Famous Quote I learned from a guy on the boards years and years ago.... " IF ITS A FLOATER, USE PROMOTER" Guys username was "Reckon".. He got ran off the 101 site when it was half way decent.. Never to be seen again :-(

The grille is ABS plastic and does not need any promoter, you can paint directly to it or seal it first with epoxy-either way will work just fine.

There's always the danger that someone reading a thread on plastic refinishing will take advice tailored to a specific plastic part to be good for any plastic material, which it is not, so BK's advice is good for those who might be working with an unidentified type of plastic.

That is some crazy advice Bondoking! but, definitely catchy!! I really don't want to cut on this thing, I don't think there is a spot to get away with that, so I’m thinking the epoxy and paint is the way to go.
thanks a lot guys for the advice! I hate painting plastic....

so how do you know when it's supposed to be used? by using bondoking's advice? which even i can remember! haha I thought a promoter was for more flexible applications?

Good Lord, you almost have to be a chemist to figure this out. I talked with Barry and he said 320 and then Epoxy.
I think you are right, crashtech bondoking has some good easy to use advice! thanks everyone!
