PPG paints over SPI Epoxy

Love SPI Epoxy.......but I want to use PPG's Deltron basecoat and then maybe the SPI clearcoat over that. I know SPI says they're compatible with PPG paints.......but I wanted to know about people's personal experiences. Any problems? I was thinking about maybe using the PPG K36 2K primer in between the SPI epoxy and the PPG basecoat for better adhesion. Thoughts?

throw the 80's primer in the dumpster . i use ppg color but would never use k36 . it sucked in the 80's.

I use deltron base over spi all the time works great, any quality basecoat for that matter works great. but use epoxy as a sealer for your final prime. A paint job is only as strong as the weakest layer, if you use a sub par primer that's where its bound to fail in the future.

I would use the Spi 2k primer or the ****$***** 2k primer.

The new ppg primers are nice but you damn near have to take out a second mortgage to buy them and they end up in a dust pan.

You won't have any problems using K36 with SPI epoxy but make damn sure you give it a long cure time. I did a lot of work with K36 back in the late 80's and early 90's and never had any problems but I gave it ample time to cure and shrink before I blocked or it would haunt me. You'd be better off using SPI turbo primer IMO.

Their new DAS line of primers act the same way. They sure do lay out nice and slick, but they shrink like crazy. Best to prime and let it sit for a few weeks.
