plastic dash repair / strengthening with epoxy primer???

I'm in the process of "rebuilding" the dash in my dodge truck. I'm too cheap to buy a replacement and it's literally cracked and broken in a number of places. I had to take it out to replace the heater core today and am thinking I can use epoxy and glass I have laying around for boat work to repair and strengthen the cracked portions from the back. Looks good so far. I'm wondering if it might work to lay multiple thick coats of epoxy primer over it - especially the top - in order to strengthen and protect it down the road. Any thought? I'd paint over the primer with grey to match the interior and to protect the primer from the sun. Any input appreciated... Thanks!

Urethane Supply has a how to section on their site for repairing a padded dash. It might be helpful.

Thanks! it's not padded though, just plastic and has gotten very brittle and splinters whenver any stress is applied to it. It is a major and very common problem in Dodge ram trucks...

I have used several of the molded plastic glue on one`s. They are available for about $150.00 shipped, and look really good. I would think you will have than that in materials in trying to fix that one.

Thanks for the reply! I've got it much of the way glued together and am goign to shoot a couple of thick layers of gelcoat over it, then a layer of paint so the gel will cure completely. If that still looks like crap, I'll glue one on it. Note that I'm trying to do this without buying anything more unless I have to - using materials I have on hand. Any other ideas also appreciated.

I didn't think gelcoat was known for high flexibility? If it was up to me I'd probably stick to SPI epoxy primer, layering on multiple coats over several days.
