PXL_20221027_163307419.jpg I was messing around checking the paint thickness on some used cars with aluminum body panels and several had this reading or a bit higher. Those with steel panels measure just fine.
 
Look at the paperwork the gauge came with. It is probably only rated for steel. Steel and AL gauges use different measuring techniques.
 
It's set to auto and detects what it's made of. If you take a look it says "N" which is non ferrous.
 
I know we don't have the same devices but, I just checked my user manual to see if there was any helpful suggestions to pass on. Here are some trouble shooting guidelines.

1. Low batteries will hamper accurate readings.
2. If devic is still not working correctly, do a System Reset to factory settings.
3. Once System Reset is complete, recalibrate device.
