Hello all just joined the forum and have been reading and absorbing as much info as I can. But I have a question, I keep seeing SPI base in all knds of topics, but I can't seem to locate it on the site or any mention of it any where but in the forum. Where can I find some info, color chips/samples, and pricing on it. I have completly switched all of my products to SPI and would like to get away from PPG if I could, and use a QUALITY product. Thanks for the info in adavance and hope to gain some knowledge while here.

i still have a gallon and a half of black left...probably covet it until its unusable LOL. seems folks here are using prospray in its place. ppg aint bad if you get the higher end stuff right?

PPG basecoat, DBC at least (the one that doesn't require the reactive reducer) isn't a bad product. You can reduce their basecoat with SPI's reducer, and the SPI reducer numbers (860, 870, etc) are even the same as the PPG ones for those temperature ranges. There are better basecoats out there, and there are worse ones for sure. I wouldn't say you're "cheaping out" or using a significantly inferior product if you used PPG for your basecoat. The worst thing I could say about PPG basecoat is that the employees main PPG jobber in this town are rude. Chad S on the forum here sells Pro-Spray basecoat and is nice to work with.

Personally if I was going to use ppg, I would have to go with global, it seems to be a bit better than DBC, which i never personally cared for. But it's been a good 5yrs since I sprayed either.

fill the head space in that partial can with argon and it will last a long time. Bloygen is a aerosol can product if you don't have access to a bottle of argon gas on a tig.

^ i have one full un-opened can and 2 separate quarts...

my local ppg jobber is rude and scoffs at a hobbyist like me as welland charges full retail on everything... so i take my business somewhere else...
