My gun gas started Quaking..

..ike duck. Gun: DeVilbiss+ gravity..DeKups closed bag system. I have 100+ in the line, a double piston compressor with 5' tall tank ...about 50' of line to the gun.

Use a DeVilbiss regulator at the base of the gun with the needle in Green (~30lbs) at half trigger. I sorta/half remember to set the fan and pressure like the SPI book. 'Before I 'really' cleaned my gun' ..I don't remember this popping/quaking?

I'm sure it probably something simple.. but I'm still a novice ..with nice tools that I don't understand yet. Appreciate any directions.. Thanks.

Jim

Oooops ..one new element: For the last two uses, I put in one of those DeVilbiss inline filters just below the paint container (new each time). I'll need to shoot again tomorrow afternoon. The guns is virtually 'clean as new'.

first thing you do with a new gun is pull out the cup strainer and throw it in the trash .

How much of the internal parts were exposed to the "Naked Gun Cleaner". I see two possibilities. That cleaner is very strong, it may have ate up a gasket or bushing enough to damage a seal inside the gun. Two, if you waited long enough to clean old paint out of your gun, you may not have got it as clean as you hoped. Years ago, back in my lacquer days, I bought a gun cleaner similar to Naked Gun. It was literally like air craft paint remover. I ended up throwing it away cause I never had a need for it. But I remember it was very potent stuff. If the Naked Gun cleaner you used is anything like that, I would at least check any internal part of the gun that you did not clean or that the cleaner came in contact with. Also, Im not sure exactly what you mean by "quaking".

Also if you took it apart make sure everything is tight. Especially the air cap. Describe the problem you are having better and maybe someone can help.

I think he means "quacking" like a duck versus "quaking" like an earthquake.

That's it Ben.. Quacking like a duck, or burping.. an interruption in the flow. I'm shooting some clear this afternoon ..without that little inline filter. (maybe Euro 2.1 clear is too thick to pass it easily)

I also tore the gun down yesterday afternoon ..no seals to speak of Outlaw. One bit of plastic at the base of where the DeKups1/2 turns into the top of the gun - in good condition. Maybe I didn't didn't take the full 1/2 turn and allowed some air leakage? Air cap seated well. ...we'll see. Thanks.

Wetstuff,

As a suggestion, if you can take a picture of the spray pattern you are using shot against a spray-out panel and attach a picture, that may help to troubleshoot. A lot can be deciphered by what the spray pattern looks like. Usually a 1/2 second shot w/full trigger will get you an accurate pattern.

Take the cap and head off and check if they are not full of trash it could back feed air into the cup and make sure your breather hole is clear on the lid. Always toss those pesky cup filters in the garbage.

Once you check that put straight reducer in it and spray that the same way you would the material and see how that sprays.

Chris_H..may have been onto something.. I assumed the Air Cap was tight because I'm the one who screwed it on.. but after this last spray I pulled the spring retainer and took it apart. There was schmutz in the contact area, so the seat was not 100%. Still may be another cause, but I'll do as Datec says and shoot some reducer. ..and report back. Nothing else, I'll have the cleanest gun on the county. Thanks guys.

Jim

I always take mine apart after running thinner thru them and use a soft brush to finish cleaning.
