Metal Protection Without Epoxy

I'd like to do some metal work (hammer and dolly) on some of my panels. Unfortunately, I cannot spray epoxy. Being in the northeast, especially as wet as it's been this year, I expect to have surface rust concerns for those areas that I take down to bare metal. In the absence of epoxy, can anyone recommend a coating I can put on there to minimize surface rust? I can apply Rustoleum primer, but I'm not sure that would be more trouble than it's worth in the long run getting it back off prior to epoxy. I also have Ospho - the site seems to infer that it's a clean metal protectant, but only when followed up with paint.

Just trying to keep the project going until I get my paint situation taken care of.

Thanks,
Chris

You could always do your metal work/sanding/applying epoxy in sections, that is what I have been doing throughout the year.

FWIW I've been brushing and rolling on SPI in sections. High humidity started to flash rust on panels. My project was moved from a very low humidty area with bare/ultra clean panels which didn't rust for years in bare metal. Decided I would brush/roll it on in sections as I cleaned then, then will sand it all and spray it at a later point.

Good luck.

Thanks, Challey. Did you have issues with brush stroke lines or was it thin enough (assuming normal mixing ratios) that it flowed out? I could do my suspension parts and frame, too, but I'd rather not have brush strokes on that stuff since I won't be sanding it down like I will the body panels.

MJM, I thought about those things, but didn't think they would work too well. I guess they do if you don't really care about the final look? Do you think that would be an option for my frame/suspension?

Thanks, everyone!
