How many coats of clear on front bumper cover

I just finished repainting the front bumper cover on my daily driver because it had been blasted from all the road debris. I have 2 coats of universal on it so far but I was thinking of wet sanding it and putting 2 more coats for a little more protection. Just how much clear can I put on a plastic cover like this before I'd run into problems? Thanks

Thanks Bob, I thought being that its plastic and flexible, that it might crack or something if too much was put on.

4 coats is no problem, the thicker it gets the less flexible it will be but you're well within the safe range IMO

Honestly, more than 2 coats of SPI is overkill for a driver. I mean, you could put on more, but it would really just be a waste if you're not going to sand and buff it flat. 2 coats of SPI has as much or more film build as any premium clear out there.

Just sayin'.

Well this car gets driven 50k a year so I think I'm going to give it a couple more coats and hope it will last longer before it looks like hell again. Thanks guys

Well, I hate to contradict your thinking, but usually we find that the more paint is on a front bumper, the easier it will chip. I honestly think you are about as good as you'll get right now, with the only way to make the finish more chip resistant being to strip it completely and start over using special methods and products for flexible parts.
