How long

How long do I need to wait for cure of epoxy on suspension parts before it put top coat on?

What brand paint and paint color are people using to get A arms and linkage to look like steel?
I'm guessing rattle cans will be fine?

A-arms were black from the factory but a lot of the cast parts were bare steel or phosphate coated, spindles, steering arms, tierods... most people use cast blast or other rattlecan products over the epoxy primer.

when i restore any antique stuff for my house like my lineberry cart for instance, i mixed black epoxy and added a bunch of white pearl, just a touch of red oxide and a little flattener. it makes a cast iron epoxy coating that looks so real you could never tell.

Thanks Bob, I probably shouldn't have called them A arms, these are from a 54 Buick and have the king pins, another site showed a them looking like steel. I kinda like the contrast. I'm not going for judging. I really do appreciate this site and help!

Thanks Jim C.!

Is there a rattle can of anything that looks like anodized metal? (gold tint-for the drum backing plate)

I still gotta find out the cure time in need, before top coating.

Thanks,
Jerry

I've used a lot of the cast iron, steel, zinc, anodized, simulated aresols over the years. Some look decent but remember none of these aresol products are very durable, you need a 2K product to get good durability.

White pearl? That's a unique solution, for sure! What's a good starting point for the pearl, and do you mean dry pearl?

the basf pearls are the thick paste type in the squeeze bottles. it makes the black epoxy slightly more grey and give a metal look to it. looks funky in the mixing cup but works fantastic.

Still have questions...

"you need a 2K product to get good durability."
I used SPI epoxy, I'm looking for cure time before I top coat.

"most people use cast blast or other rattlecan products over the epoxy primer."
How soon can I paint or how long should I wait to rattle can?

I just put the final top coat of SPI on a few parts that I missed in the 1st round...

Thanks,
Jerry

tech sheet says to let epoxy set overnight before topcoating, unless you thinned it to use as sealer (1 coat only) then let set for about 4hrs. before top coat is applied
