Hot August Nights 2024 - anyone else going?

I'm optimistic that my 68 el Camino will be road worthy by summer and I registered for Hot August Nights in Reno, 8/4/24 - 8/11/24.
Have a buddy with an enclosed trailer that we will haul the car in.
The Hot Rod Power Tour is on my bucket list, but it is so far away. Starts in Bowling Green, KY this year. That is 2400 miles away and is in June, then you drive ~ 1000 miles on the tour. I won't have time to shake down the car before then and it makes me nervous. Maybe next year.

Reno is much closer to me, 1200 miles, plus I'll trailer in and just do the evening cruises. Much more practical.

Anyone else thinking of going? It would be great to meet some of you fine folks in person.

It's about a 7 hour drive, but I don't know if I will go. Not having my own rig to show off makes it a lot less likely. I'm glad you will be going and I am going to think about it.

My first time going was 1993. I go pretty much every year - although it has been several years since I had a car there. Barring any unforeseen circumstance - I will be there this year too. It would be fun to say "Hi"...

That's awesome that you're aiming to get your '68 El Camino road-worthy for Hot August Nights! Those things are classics. Tell me more about your El Camino! Is it a stock restoration or do you have any custom touches? I've heard of the Power Tour is a beast! Totally understand wanting to have your El Camino dialed in before tackling that.

I'm so excited for Hot August Nights too! I've been going every other year myself, and it's always a blast. I'm really hoping to see some classic Mustangs there, especially those between 1969 and 1973. They're just iconic - those were the years with the legendary Boss 429 and the Mach 1 with the Cobra Jet engine. Plus, the design on those Mustangs is perfect - a great mix of classic muscle and a bit more modern style.

I added some custom touches here and there.
I have a build thread on this forum. Here is the link:

Just got back. Fun times and lot's of really nice cars. The best is the evening cruises, hearing the cars run and seeing them actually being driven.
Looking forward to taking mine next year.
I kind of miss the days before I painted a few cars, back when most paint jobs at a car show looked great . . .
