Help me with Red for my 68 Camaro

Hey Guys,
I've been inactive on this forum since the changeover from the previous incarnation (previous username 70mousjob) and am looking for some advice now that I am getting back to my project. I have a 68 Camaro that I am getting ready for paint, and I'm having a tough time with red selection. All of my primers and clear are SPI, and I'm planning on contacting Chad for some Prospray when it comes time to base.

The problem I'm having is selecting a red. I like a really pure red, with litte if any orange tint, but I want something that is going to look right on the car. So far I'm enamored with Chevy Victory Red, however I'd guess there are probably a million variants. It seems half of the time I see this color I love it, and the rest of the time it is too orange. I used to have a red 2000 trans am, and every time I saw it next to a Pickup or something else in Victory, the victory looked really orange. I do however love how it looks on the ZL1 on Chevy's website. How do I pick the right variant? Other colors I've been looking at include: Ford Colorado Red and I think its Mazda Velocity Red (not quite sure, but I do really like a red that is on a bunch of little mazda's running around). Any thoughts to this age old, asked a million times question?

Thanks!
Brandon

Red is a hard one. If you see a car with factory paint on it grab the paint code. Otherwise you are shooting in the dark!

Wow that Mustang is GORGEOUS!! I had no idea SPI Red was still available! I have color chips from back when SPI had a multitude of basecoats, and had fallen in love with it 3 years ago. Last time I was on the forums, it was the old forums, and Barry was discontinuing all basecoats. I ordered a gallon of SPI Red this afternoon, can't wait to spray it! Is a gallon going to be enough for a complete on a first gen camaro? I'm thinking about ordering a second as I like to have leftover for repairs down the line.

SPI Red is a nice color for sure. When looking at GM Reds don't get it confused with torch red, that one is a bit oranger.
