heat in the garage

My forced air unit has a concentric vent. It's a pipe within a pipe. One draws outside air and the other vents.

I wish when I built my shop I would have done in the floor heating. That would solve a lot of problems but I just did not have the money to invest at that time. I have seem some shops where guys did that and it would sure make a nice heat system in a DIY Booth. No matter how much air exchange you have going on, the floor would just keep radiating heat.

Floor heat is awesome. I hope I have the chance to install it in my future shop when the time comes.

I have floor heat with the booth on a seperate thermostat. When I turn up the thermostat it also pumps water through a air/water heat exchanger that warms the air coming into the main part of the shop. When it's cold out it warms the incoming air to at least 60 which is enough to keep the temperature up.

As soon as the fan is off the heat radiates from the floor and everything is back up to full temp in a couple minutes. Works really good for a poor mans way to maintain temp.

I have a propane salamander from years ago and it used to burn my eyes slightly. That was enough to tell swa me from using it.

Sounds pretty awesome Brad, I wish I would have gone that route. When I built my shop 30 years ago I had to go with a wood stove. I had given up working on restoration projects and was into wood working so the wood stove made sense. I also have an endless supply of firewood.

I am having a furnace installed in my garage and the new furnaces use outside air for combustion so there wont be a problem when I turn my heat on after painting. I could not run it while I am painting because it just pushes the air around too much.

Maybe your stove could be retrofitted to pull combustion air from outside?

The exhaust fans in the paint booth pull air down the chimney and thru the stove.
