Gun air supply regulation what do you use?

Curious to know if you use a regulator at the gun while shooting and if so which one.

I think if my memory serves me correctly that Barry said to use one at the gun. But my memory sucks lol.

I have the Orange digital Devilbiss.

I use this one on my Iwata,

And here's another on that has been recommended on here.

These are just two, I'm sure there are many more out there in various price ranges.
You want a true regulator and not a choke valve. And also a glass lense so you can clean it with thinner without melting it.

Any idea how I can verify or identify if my Devilbiss is a true regulator? It says its a regulator but that means nothing….

Well I'm pushing the limits of my knowledge zone, but googling Orange digital Devilbiss, there is a HVA-555 which looks to me is an air valve, and a HARG-555 which is a regulator. Which do you have?

I’ve got a choke valve darnit. Its the HVA555

I’ve used a lot of different gauges through the years. Choke valve style I’ve had really good luck with the cheapy 3m ones actually. Gauge is really accurate, has a glass face and holds up well to abuse. If you’re okay with spending some extra coin, walcom makes a really good choke valve with a detachable gauge which is nice, you don’t have to worry about bumping into it with your wrist. I also like the walcom regulator, all of their stuff is super high quality.

I've purchased three of those thru Summit Racing last year for $50 dollars each. Price has jumped to $60 dollars each....bites upper lip.
Yeah it’s unfortunate. But they seem to be good quality and are cheaper than other name brand diaphragm regulators such as iwata etc. and it has a nice big gauge so I can see lower pressures easily for my lph’s.

So I have a stupid question the gauge is 0 to 60 does that mean I should regulate from the compressor line 60 max? What I mean is with the gauge handle compressor pressure at say 120 psi at the gun regulator or should I regulate down before the gun to 60 psi maximum, I don’t know what that diaphragm can handle.
I was always told not to regulate anywhere except at the gun, but I don’t wanna blow the diaphragm at the gauge.

I’ve seen threads where Barry recommends that the regulator at the wall be opened to 120 minimum, then turn it down to your desired setting at the gun. http://www.spiuserforum.com/index.php?threads/need-help-adjusting-a-gun.2200/#post-27294

Agree with Dan, I think a choke valve will let your gun see the compressor tank pressure when you take your finger off the gun trigger. So I think if your tank is at say 150psig, your gun will see 150psig and your gun may not be rated for that 150psig. A true regulator valve will not do that.

And also a glass lense so you can clean it with thinner without melting it.

I have started putting a piece of clear packing tape over the gauge lens before spraying and when it gets coated, just pull the old tape off and put on a new piece.

From the RTI RTC- MR1 spec page;
  • Max Inlet Pressure = 200 PSIG
Great then I can open the line and only regulate at the gun as Barry suggests without the concern of blowing the diaphragm. This was the info I was hoping for. I haven’t yet received my RTC Reg yet.
