First time spraying epoxy

Hello first time posting, I will be starting to spray epoxy for the first time very soon, I am going to do my c10 cab in stages starting with the bottom, I want to do a couple coats of epoxy than raptor the bottom as well, curious on gun settings and the amount of epoxy I would need to cover, I don’t want to either mix to much or worse not enough.
Any tips would be great, thanks.

Mix enough to for sure do one coat on what ever you are painting. measure what is left and you will know how much it takes for 1 coat. You have to make a SWAG at first, make sure it is at least enough to spray one coat.

Sorry guys not sure what SWAG stands for, learning right from scratch here so thanks for the help.

the good thing about epoxy is the long pot life. when im spraying spi epoxy i am in no rush. zero. plenty of time. i put all my time in making sure the panel is clean as i can get it. since its your first time, dont think that "oh ive mixed it, i need to spray it before it goes bad". you have PLENTY of time. hours... and plenty of time to recoat it as well., days. its probably the easiest , user friendly thing to spray in the entire restoration process. in my opinion

What year c10? I'm doing an 85 and I got some quantities per panel written down I could share with ya for to get ya close.

HAHA ok I am great at that, thanks Chris
I have one more question for you guys, I sand blasted the cab on the c10 with glass media and sanded the bottom with 80 grit do I need to use both the waterborne WAG remover and then the solvent WAG?
I read on the forum that you can epoxy right after blasting as well, seems to me when I sanded with 80 grit it smoothed the surface more than what the blasted areas where, just want to make sure I get great adhesion.

Hi DanMcG, it’s a 1972

You can't go wrong using 8 ounces per panel, per coat as already stated.

As an example using a front fender. 16 ounces will spray two coats.

Csharko,
Avoid putting too much on when doing your first coat anytime you use SPI epoxy or it will crater. When you see it you'll know what I'm talking about. It happens often if you haven't sprayed epoxy before. After the first coat wait a minimum of 30 minutes before the addition of of each subsequent coat... Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on the 30 minute flash time.

Here's a link to the SPI tech manual.

Hey Csharko, different body style but similar, so here is what I've used on my 85's panels for one coat of epoxy. I would just multiply it by the number of coat I wanted and add maybe 10% or what ever worked out for easy calculating.
Door 4 oz
fender 3 oz
roof 5-6 oz
hood 8 oz
6' bed side 6 oz
I hope it at least gives you a place to start, good luck!

That’s perfect thank you, I know I am overthinking it all but just don’t want to screw up lol, a lot of work went in to get this far.

Thanks Toolin, I have been doing lots of reading so getting good info, I was advised to use both the water and solvent WAG remover as well but the tech sheet says just the waterbourne one.

Freshly blasted clean metal is the best surface for SPI epoxy as far as I'm concerned. Wash your project really well with Dawn or Simple Green before you blast it, blow it off with compressed air and spray epoxy.
