Evercoat Plastic Honey

Has anyone ever used Evercoat's plastic honey part number 101249?

I usually thinned plastic filler with their metal glaze. I have been using Rage Ultra, and the rep told me I didn't need to use finishing putty anymore, but for skimming, filler straight out of the can isn't the best thing.

It's a product that has been around a long time. The only thing I would question is whether it has been reformulated to contain ZNX-7; the info I have seen does not say. If it doesn't, large additions of Plastik Honey could cause adhesion to be poorer over difficult substrates. Since we don't usually use a tremendous amount of filler, it's easiest for us just to mix some poly putty and regular filler together to get a smoother coat that can still be made and used in a larger quantity, like a finish coat over a big area.

Always thought about trying some myself, but not for thinning out good filler.

In hot weather particularly, the honey part separates to the top of the can & if you don't stir into the bottom part good enough, it's too dried out by the time you get down to it. Bringing slightly dry filler back up to spec likely would be a better use for this stuff. The top portion of a can not properly stirred to the bottom does work smoother, so a small amount may not be a bad thing.

Otherwise, myself , I,ve also mixed in metal glaze to smooth out slightly dry filler or just used the metal glaze if I wanted really smooth & thin. Doesn't hurt to carefully experiment once in a while, but sometimes what we normally do ain't such a bad thing.

I used something similar by Clausen and to me it make the product very hard to sand so I only used it a few times and tossed it. Not sure if this would have the same effect or not.

i have some here that i use. it takes very little to do the job. about double the amount of cream hardener. its such a small amount that i have not noticed a big difference in the properties of the filler itself. it does lengthen the cure time so it actually helps slow things down on hot days. i rarely use the stuff since i start with a thicker filler that i da with then i use quantum for anything im going to block. that stuff is thin enough and spreads great.

I used to smooth out filler using fiberglass resin.
Never had a problem

yeah thats really all it is except the honey kicks off with bp cream hardener to match the filler instead of mekp like regular resin.
