Construction Of New Texaco Station (1953)

Pretty neat! Now if people today would work that hard and not complain about having to work society could do better.

Brings back memories. Worked at an old Texaco station when I was a kid that had the exact same round sign and clay tiles on the roof. OK, I'm getting old but the station was old at the time back then. You work like that every day busting concrete with a 20lb sledge you don't get fat :).

No sign of circular saws either. A good hand saw was $10 back then (a day's pay). A Craftsman circular saw cost $89 back then -- two week's pay for one of those workers. They got paid the same regardless of how fast they worked so the hand saw was the way to go. I still have the files and tooth set tool to keep them performing their best. I guess being nine back then makes me kinda old. In my mind I've just been celebrating being 18 for 50 years.
