So I picked up one of these lids at home depot. I generally go throgh a lot of primer. Do you think it will be ok to leave it on. It appears to seal very tight.

Also it was so nice to poor into the mixing cup!

Does it have a seal that goes into the ridge of the top of the can?

You can pick the agitators up from the paint store that go on the mixing rack at a decent price. they lock down with twist locks and have a seal that seals it tight like a lid. Though if sitting for a while it would probably be best to seal tight with a correct lid.

$12 at my local paint supply store for a 1 gal mixing bank lid.

Add a window crank and it works awesome:

^ That is a cool idea, although I am lazy enough to want to use my geared-down cordless drill, if it came to that...

I use them all the time and use them for primer and paint, once it's on I leave it on. It's been hit or miss lately with finding them though. They are nice because you can flip up the upper lid to stir. There is a red colored one that's a different style and I don't like as much, you have to remove completely to stir and it distrubs the seal. I've used the yellow ones with no problems, they seal fine.

SOF,
Mixing bank lid? Can't picture it. You find it at a local paint supply store? Automotive paint store or one that sells house type paints?
Thanks,
Dave

This one is for a qt can I believe, but they make them for gallon also.

I don't want to knock the OP's idea, but for longer term storage, I believe the real mixing lids to be superior.

Long term I would just put the lid on, but for a marathon of priming with in a week or 2 I think they should be ok?? I dont know I just saw it and figured I would give it a shot.
Is the handle for operating the mixer function?
Yes, take the small blade type thing off the shaft and the window handle will fit right on.

I bought the mixing top from my auto paint supplier, he said he always stocks them as many guys buy them for this use. The window handle was his suggestion too.

OJ, that lid looks like a great device for pouring paint , be great for seperating a gallon into 4 qts! Nice and easy to clean up.

The mixing bank lid, it is pretty well a dedicated lid due to the difiiculty of cleaning it to switch colors.

Your find is an awesome and cheap way to pour a color, gonna be getting me a couple of those!

So it has been a week since I put the lid on. Worked tonight and opened the center part to stir the primer up. The primer that was on the bottom of the lid from when I poured it the first time was still wet. I'd say it sealed up pretty good.

Thanks for the update, OJ. I might have to give that a try when I am going through a lot of primer. Then I'll put the real lid on the can for the off-season.

I have tried the red flexible lids from home depot. left it on overnite and noticed that it was letting the solvents in the epoxy primer permeate through. now i just use the original lid and to pour i have hard plastic spout that snaps onto the lid. tossed the flexible red spouts
