Can I use W&G remover over base?

I sprayed black Pro-Spray base, 4 coats of UC, sanded with 400 dry then 600 wet, layed out my stripes then sprayed Silver Pro-Spray base.

I sprayed the base today and will be spraying 3 more coats of UC tomorrow afternoon.

My question is can I use waterborne (or solvent if needed) W & G remover on the base? I have not touched the silver so I guess I don't have to wipe it down but it would be easier to go over everything all at once before I tack and spray.

Thanks, Steve

When you shoot a metalic like that silver and know you're going to need to do some cleaning before clear (fingerprints etc.. on the black during masking) it's always best to shoot a coat of intercoat clear over the metalic-this makes a surface that's easier to clean and less chance of disturbing the metalics. You should be fine with solvent w&g remover just be careful and I would try to stay off the stripes other than a light go with a tack rag.

Thanks for the replies. I used solvent based W & G remover primarily on the black and carefully just went over the edged of the silver where it meet the black. I noticed no change in the silver. I will keep the intercoat clear in mind for the future.

Thanks again, Steve

Just to add my experience with Pro-Spray base.

I was spraying both bumper covers and a wing for my car. After the final coat of base, I brought my propane heater into the booth to help bring the temp up to get the solvents out of the base before clear.(One of those 30,000btu tank top heaters)
Well....when I started spraying the Euro clear I had bad fish-eyes on the wing so I stopped. The only thing I did different from painting the body (which came out with no contamination, other than a little dust) was introducing the propane heater into the booth about 3~4 feet away from parts. So, to make a long story short, I believe this was the source of my contamination and I now needed to clean my base before clear. It would be a nightmare to fix fish-eyed clear from the urethane bumpers if I continued.

So I said what the hell, and flooded the parts with solvent W & G remover(SPI) from my sprayer and wiped off, twice. The base was a metallic red and I got no color transfer on any of the paper towels I used. I was a little shocked because I thought I would just start wiping color off. The base looked the same after the cleaning but to be safe I did do a drop coat of color before clearing and everything came out great.
This was unactivated base.

Good to hear it came out ok.
I've had many a nightmares solved by sanding my base
with some fine grit paper soaked with wax and grease remover,
it's great for a spot fix, like from a bug or wrinkle or something.
The W&G allows sanding wet when it's really to soon to sand,
it's cheating, but works.
As long as you get it dried out real good and apply more base
before clearing, you're fine.
