Been years..

Hi. It has been a few years since I was on this site. Still working on a 37 Ford Tudor. Getting close to paint now. I was looking on ebay at paint prices.. WOW!!!!! Prices have gone up since I needed paint. I had a hard time remembering this site. My other computer crashed, and all of my addresses are on that computer.
I have a question. After seeing prices over the top. I still want a great paint job. If I painted the car a white base coat.. Could I then use a purple tint in some of the clear and do the first clear coat with the tinted clear, and the second coat with a straight clear?? I would like to paint the car myself, though it has been over 30 years that I used a real gun to shoot paint. Rattle cans don't count. Back when I was in school.. Imron had just come on the market. I have one of those portable garages that I was going to use a a spray booth. Cover it with clear plastic sheeting. Then put a couple of filters on one end, and a fan on the other. Is there any paint I can spray that I spray where I would have a base and a clear coat involved?? Thanks.. Al

You can put some purple dye in the clear and shoot over white, and it might be just what you're after for looks but it will be a real bear to repair. I wouldn't do it unless you don't plan to ever need to repair. HOK Kandy Koncentrate would work fine. SPI Intercoat clear for the dye works a lot easier in my opinion.

Is there a paint chart on this site?? I would like a color on the car that stands out. I will be making a black and grey suede. The seats have a blk/gry check pattern right now. I have Arthritis in both thumbs, so my body work won't be 100%. I am trying, but it gets frustrating when you keep dropping the sanding blocks. Can someone suggest a color to me?? I have to send it past the Wife first.. Thanks.. Al

its best to just find an oem color or chip you like and roll with that. just keep it simple. something that has a paintcode so you can have it mixed anywhere. if its been years since you painted i wouldnt start with a candy thats for sure....especially on white. seen guys that paint everyday for 20 years that cant shoot that right.

no color chart on this site. spi only has a few stock colors avail. black white, some reds etc. all solids

Thanks.. I found a PPG color. I will see how much it will cost to have a body shop paint it Electric Fuchsia..

Ok. Found a color the Wife likes. Plum Crazy. It comes from the 70's Cuda and Challenger. I had Bright Blue Metallic on my 70 Challenger.
Now for painting it. What do you suggest would be the best way to go shy of having someone else paint. If I did break down and have someone else do it.. Would you suggest base coat/clear coat??, or something else??

I would stay away from that idea.. at best maybe spray white with a midcoat of intercoat with purple pearl. but as jim says, it makes it much harder for the future repair work.
