65 mustang quarter replacement

Been restoring a 65 convertable, quarters need replacement. Bought a pair from NPD, came with the deck lid gutter. i see people cut down the side of the quarter and not get into the deck lid/door gaps. seems like alot of extra body work. Do you guys do that or replace at factory seams. Also do you cut aroung quarter glass or drill out spot weld inside of glass opening?

Some people use 1/2 quarters. If you have full quarters I'd use them. Drill out all of the old spot welds. The more welds you have that are hidden the less body work you have to do. 1/2 quarters are much cheaper that's why people use them. Just more work in my opinion...

If your quarters are like originals then replace the whole thing! Plan on spending some time to get a good fit before welding it on. Use some pieces of scrap sheetmetal under each vise grip to avoid clamp marks/damage. Screws can be used in the jambs for testfitting.

It can go either way, imo. If the parts are of poor quality, where problems will generally show up most is in those critical door jamb and deck gutter areas. I've had people come to me with complete quarters, and after looking at the job and the parts, ended up replacing only sections because I thought most of the factory metal was sound, and I really do prefer keeping as much factory metal as reasonably possible.

Well i ended up buying a pair from NPD. Replaced the complete panel even around 1/4 window. i should have just trimmed around it in hind sight. Quarter on drivers side fit very good, i have near perfect gaps at door and deck lid. Pass side had to message a bit. The bottom rear I had to slice it to bring it inward to the flange. They will require blocking they are a bit wavy.
