Here is a project that Ive been working on. Its a 46 Chevy truck that I put a 2.5 inch chop on. All Ive got left on it now is some highs and lows in the metal to work out. This is the first chop Ive done and Ive learned alot. I was scared to start it but I figured if I didnt start, it would never get done. LOL! Just do it comes to mind!

Is the cut across the roof made proportional to the amount you are chopping or do you test fit and then cut what you need to line things up?

The center cut and fill isn't proportional to what is removed from the height, this cab design is fairly straight up and down on the sides so when he cut the roof off and removed the 2.5 inches it required lengthening the roof for the posts to match up. If it had been a more rounded design where the sides of the roof leaned inward he would have had to cut the roof into four pieces and add material to lengthen and widen the roof-hope that makes sense. One mistake often encountered is marking the cut lines perpendicular to the pillar's angle- all the cut lines need to be measured straight up and down-the direction the roof will be moved-they align much better that way.

Kevin, I need two doors for a 46 cab if you know of any. Collecting some ratrod build material.

Thanks Bob. That makes perfect sense now that I think about it. Also explains the vertical cut necessary for modification of the doors. Does the door glass have to be modified as well or is it just a matter of less travel distance?

You have new glass cut after the chop is done. The doors are now longer at the very top. Nice thing about this old stuff is it's all flat glass and any glass shop that does heavy equipment type safety glass replacement can cut the glass for you.

I went out and measured what I added to the rooftop and it was 1.5 inches. Bob explains it well! Bob, Ill keep my eye open for some doors! I think 41-46 were all the same, is that correct?
Keith, it is a customers truck, he has a built frame for it BUT I think it is going to get pushed off to the side, cause there is a 65 Mustang convertible that he wants to do first.

At least you still will have something to work on. If you come across some 41 chevy truck headlights I need some for a up coming project.

Kevin, just an fyi, the Challenger in the background rear tires are worn out, there isnt any tread on them !
way cool, tell us about it.

That is a drag car that has been tubbed and narrowed. There is a little history on this car. It was bought new in 70, SE, plumcrazy purple with white vinly top and a 383. Very early in its life a tree fell on the back of it. I think around 72-73 it was made into a drag car and spent most of its life on the dragstrip. I purchased it in 91 it was blue with the name Bushwacker on the doors and Wile coyote chasing the roadrunner on the front fenders. I painted it a single stage sublime (Martin Senour) and its still the same paint. The car runs 10.80s and will dip in the 10.70s with a best of 10.72 at 125mph.
