$169,000 for a car with a backyard paint job!

S

Senile Old Fart

Aussie Falcon Ute 1972 model . Owner is advertising it for only $169,000 au.
The paint job looks to be a 20 footer.
What errors did the painter make to have this mess? I first thought orange peel, but there are many pits, maybe dry spray that was buffed without color sanding, or both or???

I am sure some of you big dogs will be able to look at the photo and tell me how this mess may have been done.

I was at a Mecum auction a while back and there was (what looked like) a pretty silver early Mustang coupe. When I got closer I noticed so many of the panels not lining up it was crazy. And if my untrained eye saw that just think what you pros would see! Anyway I was shocked that it sold for 40k....

don't look like it was ever color sanded IMO, as sprayed enamel maybe? Sure doesn't have the depth or gloss of anything with urethane clear

well, dont overlook a decent or straight panel car that you can give to a real shop for a real paint job and double or triple the value of the car at the next auction.

that is an oem restoration likely shot with lacquer . buff it and it looses points.

I was thinking the same thing. Years ago Concours type restos had paint that looked like it came from the factory, not the flawless show car type finishes you see on many high end cars today. 60's Musclecars looked like anything else when they were new, haphazard panel fit and very average looking paint (at best). Doesn't mean the car is junk.
