Paint damage due to plastic cover

In my time here Ive seen you guys preach this quite a bit, and without my time here I wouldn't know it to be an issue. A few months ago I walked into my dads shop and he had been working on his 77 Vette. He had a sheet of plastic laying over it keeping the dust off of it. I asked how long it...

    Urethane Wave?

Im far from an expert but I believe that is urethane wave, looks the same as a few areas on my truck and you have to be at a low angle like this to make them more apparent to the eye.

Proposed Amendment to "The Perfect Paint Job"

I like your addition, as someone that has only painted one vehicle this step you have highlighted is an important one that gets you out of cutting corners after the 2k is down. I know you wanted to keep it short as it turns into a deal of where do you stop, but I personally like the addition...

    Universal Clear Layering

Base is Tamiya Acrylic applied with an airbrush. I've deleted my post above as it was geared more towards the clear reacting with the clear. After thinking about it more and looking at it I don't believe that was the case. I was kind of planning on switching to a different base before this...

    Universal Clear Layering

I've been using the Mr Hobby leveling thinner, it is good stuff like you mentioned. I experimented with some Mr Color lacquer and it was just a little more durable the the standard Tamiya acrylic lacquer, I assume Tamiya's straight lacquer would be close to the same. Thanks for the insight.

    Universal Clear Layering

What do you guys use for base on your models? I need to find something different. My original plan was to go right on the base, but Ive had a terrible time with this base, I used bottle Tamiya and while it spays nice and looks nice it is really soft. The picture doesn't show it but the white is...

    Universal Clear Layering

Good to know, my test last night came out good, so for the time being I can just use up my left over product.

    Universal Clear Layering

How would switching to Production Clear affect the nature of the questions asked here? I am curious because the cost for what I am doing simply isnt going to make sense in the long term. The main issue is the activator as I will get only a couple projects completed before it goes bad. Switching...

    Universal Clear Layering

I will do some experimenting, I've had a train wreck with my base so I've not made any progress. I like the idea of lightly scuffing the surface for a little extra insurance. The models are plastic and will only be for display in a cabinet with minimal handling The last time I painted...

    Universal Clear Layering

Ok, this will be a little out of the ordinary, but I want to ask. Im getting into 1:24 scale model building and want to incorporate Universal Clear into my builds, there is a great thread on here with some model work and how nice Universal Clear works. My specific issue is in order to decal I...

    1972 C10

Will do Chirs, Im going to give some of those ideas a shot for sure in the spring. Reading over some of your guys suggestions has given me some new ideas of my own to try as well. Id really like to just save this dumb thing and not deal with a major project. Sure it would be kind of cool to...

Thanks everyone for the replies and ideas. It is nice to get different perspectives. Ive considered just removing the screen and letting it go, but I have a brand new Dewitts radiator Id really like to install and not ruin. Yes I had Thermocure in it at one point for a couple days. After that...

Thought I would stop in for a yearly update. I really don't have many positives to share with regards to my truck, life itself has been pretty good and I'm thankful for that. As far as the truck I started running into trouble with it about a year ago, well it started right when I finished it...

    Winter storage

Does anyone have any first hand experience with these bubbles? I saw a TV episode where Tony Stewart had a bunch of them, they look pretty nice.

Thanks. I enjoyed following your progress on that truck, it was quite a transformation. You will have to post up some pics when he gets it lowered.
