X-cote

Barry, I know "new" products for the refinishing market come along every day. This one caught my eye and I'm curious what you think of it. The product is called X-Cote out of B.C. They claim it it a hand applied (wiped on) activated polyurethane clearcoat that restores worn out or faded finishes. Here is the link: http://www.x-kote.com/AboutUs.aspx Possible or just snake oil?

hmmm that reminds me of that blue coral that was advertized on tv in the 90's that was nothing but a lacquer type liquis that you applied with a sponge. it left streaks and faded in 3 months making the paint even worse.

i vote snake oil

Yep, I still have some sitting on the shelf. It's very rare now - any collector's want to buy it? LOL

That stuff has been floating around the mobile painter forums for years. Never got good reviews.

Never have heard of it and info is to vague to have a clue what it really is.

Soon as I see "...only available to licensed X-Kote centres" I smell snake oil fumes. I'm even more wary when I see a Ferrari in their ad. It means the product is in the "if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it" category.

The stuff I have was sold on TV as a paint restoration product. Claimed it worked "like magic" filling scratches and bringing back that new car gloss. Just wipe it on and your done.
I lived NY state at the time and had a fading car I wanted to trade in so I figured what the heck I'd give it a try. After 3 coats on one fender I gave up.

i saw them or a product like it a sema last year. talked to the guy a minute. i forgot what he said but i do remember walking away saying "bullshit" to myself. reminded me of headlight restoration stuff that you just wipe on and magically makes them new again......of course it only last 3 months before its worn away or peeling from putting it over a non prepped surface.

The brief research I found they were getting 4-600 dollars to do a car.
