Hello, im somewhat of a beginner to painting. I usally spray hoods and bumpers and fenders. I recently was spraying with a tekna pro-lite but I just found a really good deal on an Iwata w400 evo from a friend. I am looking for a new gun as im not really fond of the tekna prolite . If i do get the Iwata I will be using it for base and clear (For base I mainly spray metallic). Now my question is which gun do you think would be best out of these three options. Iwata ws400 evo HD, Walcom, or tekna prolite. Prices of the guns doesn't really matter to me. Just want the better gun

The best base coat gun is not the best clear gun, and vice versa, IMO. HVLP for base, and RP for clear. I like the tekna for base, myself, but my favorite base gun is an old Sata 2000, especially with difficult colors. The ws400 sprays clear very nice, but I have never sprayed base through it.

I just have to say that I’m definitely a WS400 fan. The other two, which to be honest I have not sprayed with would really have to come to the table with some fire power to make me change.

Funny you should post this. I was going through the same thing. I have the Tekna Prolite and like it, but kept hearing how good the WS 400 is for clear. Found a used one on ebay for $390, so I bought it. It arrived and is in great shape. Can't wait to shoot with it and let you know.

Yeah. I heard they are good guns but just hard to get the right setting for when spraying. Are you using it for base too or just clear?

As usual, TK is spot on. The old Sata 2000 HVLP guns still spray base as good as anything out there. Another couple of things to consider are, Sata's have very few plastic parts and gaskets that wear and need to be replaced. The 2000's had no plastic or gaskets whatsoever. 5000's and 5500's have some but not like many of the other brands. They last for a long long time

And with the price of premium base coats these days, you will save two or three hundred dollars using a dedicated base coat gun versus trying to make a clear gun spray base if you're doing a overall/restoration. It will pay for itself doing a few jobs.

I have had no issues when using the WS400 for spraying both base and clear. The adrenaline ZRX is 47 feet long. So that 94’ of base and clear sprayed out of one gun with no issues.

Good info and cool video!
FYI, Isocyanates are readily absorbed through the skin and eyes. Really nasty stuff. Might consider at least nitrile gloves and googles. I personally use fresh air hood and full PPE, zero skin exposed.
Not judging, just offering a tip to help keep a brother safe.

Not saying you can't spray it out of one gun, saying it isn't optimal. Especially for metallic control.
Nice professional looking video.
Just kinda surprised at the base you are using. If it's a premium product why use bottom of the barrel stuff?

It’s Southern Polyurethane Universal Clear, with an Omni base. SPI has been our go to product. It sprays nicely, and buffs easy. Thanks for the comments…………
