Work stand mod

After blocking a considerable amount of time I was annoyed with how my work stands would wobble with every stroke. Initially I clamped a 1x2 piece of pine diagonally across the uprights on one side. It worked so well I decided on a more permanent solution. Basically it's just some 3/4" EMT flattened on both ends and drilled. Two on each stand. I wasn't sure if they would fold up properly but they do. You just need to trim an de-bur a few corners. The pictures are self-explanatory.

Awesome mod, I’ve had that issue myself. They work great for doors but word of caution for sanding single thickness panels on a folding stand…. the pressure points (corners) have a tendency to push upward where our sanding blocks will have created a low once removed from the stand. We side stepped this issue by making a purpose built “sanding” stand for a hood that supported at the latch and hinge supports:

Large 5/8" bolt through the hood latch hole for supporting the nose...

And going through our scrap inventory, here's some tubing we used for the back end, bolted into the hinge support. The extra "feet" help to stabilize it so the sanding effort won't try and flop it over...

Keep these ideas coming!

I am stealing that first one for sure for my HF cheapo wobble wobble stands, lol

I get the better than hf stands thru my paint store for about what the cheapo hf stands cost. The tubes are bigger diameter and lots more stable.

Nice Work! The idea, stands and paint. The color choice is awesome.

i bought the eastwood stands. real sturdy but will loosen in time. i have my roll arounds for doors , fenders and hood. i like to set while blocking. less stress on my back.
