Where to start?

Good evening. I have an approach in head of how get started on this project but always looking for advice since I am very much an amateur. This is a 68 impala fast back. So far me and the crew have taken it off the frame, shaved the firewall, installed a moonroof, along with other modifications. This car has a paint job on it that is atleast 20 yrs old. The car has sat in a garage since 2008. The paint job is surprising pretty nice. No bubbles, no rust. It appears to have 1 repaint and the jams and underside of trunk are original paint....the owner does not want to go bare metal. So I'm looking for advice on my approach.

1. DA entire car 80 grit. Bare metal edges, and drip railsRed pad, or hand sand jambs, and dash. White epoxy 2-3 coat to lock it down.
2. Filler work
3. 2k , guide coat, sand etc
4. White epoxy as Sealer
5. Butternut yellow
6. 3 -4 coats of euro. Proceed with wetsand.

Thoughts?

Thank you

I think you want epoxy over the filler before 2k.

I would want to blast the jambs, door shells etc to bare metal. They will look so much better than a simple scuff and shoot imho.

Sometimes the time saved not going to bare metal is lost when surprises pop up later on down the road. In this case the customer is not always right imho. I’m doing some major rust repair on a 67 Camaro right now. The scope creep is significant as I uncover past sins. He would have been better off doing it right from the start and in retrospect I should have refused to do the job the way he wanted…

I can add a step of epoxy on filler. It's not a paying customer it's a long time friend. I don't think he can be convinced to go bare metal. The budget is already blown lol

For anyone reading. We got it in epoxy yesterday. We got the jambs and window gutters in bare metal with wire wheel on grinder followed by 80 grit on DA and roloc discs. Bare metal all the edges of panels and feathered them out a little. Then 80 grit the whole car. Used some ospho on the firewall. Then it was 3 coats epoxy on the bare metal and 2 coats on the car. The white didn't cover as good as I thought, it seemed like it covered better after about 10 mins of spraying it. If that makes any sense. Overall happy with the results. Now for a little filler work here and there. And on to the next step. This was 9 hour day and 3 guys hitting it with no breaks other than a 30 min lunch
