People arent dying from the virus they are dying from pneumonia or other complications. Seasonal allergies can turn into sinus infection and if left untreated can turn into pneumonia. This corona virus is nothing new. If u look at the shots and pills you give your dog. Coronavirus is on the box. Like i said the best thing to do is to turn off the tv and turn off facebook. I work in healthcare. All you can do is treat the symptoms. And if really want to get technical, in 2020 we still cannot cure or vaccine a common cold. Only treat the symptoms

@serjik911 Re-read what I wrote. I was using statistics for the US not for the world. Be as scared as you want though. Nobody's stopping you.
Reread what? Broken math? You multipling each month which is very stupid way to predict. What I showed you on graph is that death numbers exponential grow, not simply multipling like u did.
And you one who scared about your business, so you trying to play with wrong numbers

Numbers.....brazoria county texas where i live is approx 1600 sq miles with 365,000 population.....wuhan china is double square miles but 11 million population. The virus isnt any more deadly than suicide. Its contagious and spread because of over population. And now that more ppl are getting tested there are more positive results. Maybe would have been better off just saying "something is going around". Like people do every year. U know when people are school or work get sick and people casually say something is going around. Ok well what is "something"?? Lets name it. Put a picture of a mold spore looking thing on the tv and watch people wig out!!

Yes, I dont understand how China fixed that so fast with their huge population. I accept that. And I can see criticism of that. What I don't like when people are one hundred twenty percent sure about how it's all fake and bring completely wrong nbers to prove that

Do you know how to read? Did I say it's fake? No. Did I use fake numbers? No. My "wrong math" is just an assumption. We have no idea how it will play out over the next few months. Fact is as of yesterday according to the CDC 201 people have died. 201 people! In a country of 327 million that is statistically nothing. I am pointing out the irrationality of the response by society versus the response to the swine flu pandemic which killed many more people. Of which there was no response. Nothing was cancelled. Life went on as usual. You can make a graph of the US cases and deaths like the one you posted for the world and it would still only included 201 deaths cause that's all there have been here in the US. Assuming it will exponentially increase month after month is erroneous. We don't know what it will do. If you look now there have been a dramatic increase in cases but deaths are not increasing at the same proportion. That is a good thing. If you look at the CDC swine flu data deaths were a relative flat line if you were to graph it out.
But you are gonna believe what you want to believe so have at it. Go buy more toilet paper.
No more posts about this from me. Sorry for getting it started.

How about all those individuals who dont practice safe sex. No cure for hiv. Extremely contagious and essentially a death sentence....

Why is it erroneous?
Hey, this is Serjik's wife. I work at a real clinical pathology laboratory as a clinical laboratory scientist.
You are taking statistics from the first few weeks of the infection. It will grow exponentially unless something drastic is employed - such as shutdowns and strict quarantine. We are not overreacting - in fact, quite the opposite. We are weeks if not months behind in testing and management of COVID19. Actually, the numbers DO NOT reflect the actual magnitude of what's happening. Last week the lab only had enough tests for two weeks of minimal testing. That means not testing anyone who appears to have symptoms consistent with coronavirus. We are only testing healthcare workers, people in nursing homes, and those already admitted to the hospital. Which means there are thousands more untested true cases of COVID19. Contagious individuals spreading it around. There are not enough ventilators (we are requesting them from veterinary hospitals, that's how desperate we are). There are policies being introduced into our hospitals where we will be denying care to elderly patients because we will be trying to save the younger ones. Statistically, 40% of people serious enough to require hospitalization are from 20 to 45 years old. Much is unknown about how this virus chooses it's victims. To say that you are going to be fine if you are young and don't have an underlying condition is not exactly correct. And even if it was, stay home for your parents and grandparents who are likely to need those ventilators we are running out of.

First of all, has anyone heard from Shine?

This disease is an unknown, just like AIDS was when it first arrived in the uS in June 1981. AIDS was transmitted by intimate sexual contact. This bug is transmitted by droplets that can survive on surfaces for as long as 9 days. It can be transmitted through a handshake or hug. For the AIDS epidemic I I avoided anal sex but for this one I'm avoiding everyone and it's starting to piss my wife off. You'd think she'd chill but no, all she can think about its "It's our 58th anniversary." There isn't even a gift listed for the 58th!

I don't have the answer regarding the shutdowns but I live in the state that starts every single weird story in the news: "Florida Man..." Our governor decided not to order a statewide closing of Spring Break beaches, bars, restaurants and hotels this week . That meant lots of young people in close contact with each other, sharing six packs with Corona being their fun favorite. It isn't a perfect experiment because a lot of those Spring Breakers will leave Florida and go back home. Clearwater, on the west coast and Panama City in the panhandle were open for business while all the east coast beaches in South Florida were closed. COVID-19 symptoms show up in as little as two days but often take two weeks so look for a spike in cases in the two places that threw the dice. As a 75-year-old I have a target on my back so I'm on lockdown with a very cranky wife and a dog that doesn't like me. Odds are this is my last post.

As a parting gift, I do have a comment on the TP situation. Our children were born in 1962 and 1963. Disposable diapers were a luxury item to be used when traveling. We didn't travel so we only used cloth diapers (a.k.a. best polishing rags ever). After shaking the lumps into the toilet, we dropped the soiled diapers in a covered diaper pail. When the pail was full and ripe or when you were almost out of clean ones, they went in the washing machine with detergent and bleach. We use very few paper towels, preferring terry hand towels in the kitchen. When they get stained they go in the garage in my rag bin. When I finish this last roll of Scott 1000 single-ply (a.k.a. guy's TP) in a month, it's gonna be terry wipe time. Wife has 20 rolls of 5-ply girly TP but touching that would cost me my only hand.

That's the first handful of towels -- the 4 or 5 cubic foot bin is full with a couple hundred more. Brown towels are perfect.

@serjik911 Hi, Serjiks wife. According to TwinCities.com in your state of Minnesota there have been as of March 21, 138 cases and one death, which was of a person in their 80's. Source here:
According to the Minnesota Department of Health there were 395 hospitalizations for influenza this week in your state and 263 last week.
Source: Why aren't you in a panic over that? Why aren't we quarantining every year for the flu?

And one thing that no one can escape is that there are as of yesterday 201 deaths according to the CDC.

I don't say not to take it seriously but my god the flu kills thousands each year. We go on living. Old people die. It's a fact of life. Sorry if that sounds harsh but it is what it is. If this were killing people left and right then yes major cause for concern. But it isn't. You know it and I do too. One confimed death in your state. Come on.

First of all, you never replied why the growth is not exponential. You are using current numbers which do not reflect the reality as you will probably not get tested for it even if you present with symptoms. Flu kills many people, many are hospitalized - another reason to be really worried. Less hospital beds available for those coronavirus patients. Less ventilators. We know a lot about influenza. There is a vaccine for it (with varying efficiency every year, but nevertheless), most healthcare workers are vaccinated. Flu tests are widely available and in full stock in all clinics, urgent care facilities, hospitals. That's why the numbers are high as you will get tested for it if you present with symptoms. Flu onset is usually rapid, while with COVID-19 it is believed that asymptomatic individuals can spread the infection before it is diagnosed.
We do not know a lot about COVID-19, but current understanding is it's 2 times more contagious than the flu.
One day, there was only one case of coronavirus in the US, right now there are more than 21000. It's only been weeks. There are 260 deaths in the US right now. Based on your formula, 201 people will die monthly. We will report back in a month to see if you are correct. BTW, most people are practicing social distancing and with everything closed right now due to "panic" - the mortality will be much lower that it would have been.
Old people die, but with the way this infection is spreading, they will not be given a chance, as we are going to be running out of ventilators really soon.
It is silly to assume that our capitalist government would let its economy completely collapse by shutting everything down unless the threat was actually real.
It's our last post because this argument is pointless and can last forever. We will be back in a month and we REALLY hope you are right.
Good luck to your family and stay healthy.
