What are you doing with your soiled painting rags?

What are you doing with your soiled painters rags or towels? I picked this metal can up today to put my soiled rags in. I'll fill the can about 1/4 to 1/2 with water and soap. The lid seals very tight so I was thinking of drilling some vent holes in the top just incase any fumes build up.

Besides throwing all my painter rags into a corner and seeing if they spawntaniously catch on fire, what's your method for disposal?

had the landlords insurance agent come thru, rags everywhere. Told me to get the osha regulation oily rag containers. When he came back he says make sure you empty that every night. Empty it where?
You had me to spend 150 bucks on a container that I cannot leave rags in overnight? Apparently if the garbage cans catches fire at night at least its outside?

I use the blue shop towels and throw them in the trash.

For buffing and finish work I use Microfiber towels. I hang on to them and have the wife wash them for me. After that I use them for general clean up, grease rags, etc. If they get too filthy to put in the washing machine, I throw them away.

Yeah that doesn't make much sense. Like you're supposed to take them to a designated dumping site every day?

I do the same thing with Microfiber towels.

I would never put anything solvent or gasoline soaked into an enclosed container. Let the rags/towels evaporate in the open then toss them.

That's what I've previously done. I will actually place the solvent soaked rags outside of my garage, I'll soak them down with water and soap, then place a rock on them so they don't blow away. On trash day I throw them out. I may be a little over cautious about this but, better safe than sorry. Just looking to keep the rags outside of the garage out of the neighbors view.

I've thought about this for my microfiber towels, but was scared I'd get stuff in the washing machine. I'm not worried about my jeans and t-shirts, but lord help me if her stuff comes out smelling like Chemical Guys products LOL

yeah, well, time for a new washing machine for her and leave one for yourself. Its what I keep wanting to do, but keep waiting too long before the one working takes a dump.
