What am I missing

Make sure your pulley belt is in the correct alignment. Not doing so can cause undue wear on the motor arbor bearings.
 
For sure! It's lined up but just a bit loose. That motor only needs to move about 1/4 of an inch.
 
this is the 2 part type pully. 2 bolts hold the pully to the inside piece. but still has a key . remember the belt just needs to be tight enough to not slip. too much tension will kill the motor or pump.

Shoot, I was hoping you would have another question. I was going to recommend cutting a hole in the side of the tank to make sure nothing was wrong inside.
