Went trhu clear during wetsanding.

Wet sanded the back of my vette today. Sanded all the way to 2000. Found a small black dot on the sail panel. It was right at eye level and no way not to notice it. So I tried to sand it out but burnt thru the clear. Well I guess I am going touch up the spot and reclear the rear of the car. Just got done scuffing the car with light grey 3m pad. I am not going to be able to reclear it until Monday. I have about 1.5 quarts of the clear and the same for the activator. That should be enough.

2000 is pretty fine. I'd like to see if anyone thinks you need to do a flow coat of 2 more coats to ensure you have enough.

I had 5 coats on there. Started at 800, worked my wat up to 2000. Would have been fine if I didn't try to get the black spot out.

Not being able to see it greatly hinders any offers for how to fix it.
If you didn't sand the base coat off, then try shooting some clear over it. A light coat just over the immediately area followed by a wet coat. It may just disappear.

If you got down to the primer this method won't work.

It didn't go down to the primer. The spot is similar to yours but smaller and on the sail panel. If it wasn't for the black spot, could have been a bug I would have the back all cut and buffed.

was there metallic in that base? usually you scratch the metallic basecoat and you get bright silver. Are you sure you dont need to touch up the base before clearing?

That's the problem with word descriptions rather than posting pictures. We are left to "guess" what he is actually looking at.

I bought a paint depth gauge and really like it. I buff on a lot of cars and the differences in thickness is astounding.
