Way to Tell How Close SPI Color is to Factory Color?

If possible, and because this company is obviously so great, I'd like to keep everything within the same family so that I can bug the heck out of you guys (and Barry) when I have questions. This question: is there any way to tell how close a particular single stage SPI topcoat (one of the reds) is to my car's red out of the factory? I'm painting a 1966 Triumph Spitfire (eventually) that came in Signal Red (Triumph paint code 32). My guess is that SPI's "red" will be close, but I was curious if there is a way to know "how close". This is my first restoration, so definitely not concourse, and if I can keep all of my paint with SPI, I would prefer that. I know red is red, but I am trying to keep the car as original as possible so it would bug me if I didn't know. Thanks!

Good question and an interesting one at that as none of my colors were matched to any color.
It would be interesting to camera one of the red chips and see how many colors come up.

I tried for a couple months to match a 75 TR6 BRG, Utech, Dupont and Nason. The Utech guys went above and beyond but never got it, and I'm talking spraying out test panels themselves, took the deck lid to them to camera, prob 2 months trying. I tried to pay them for their time but they wouldn't accept. I was spraying the engine compartment to match a 5 yr old repaint on the outside. Doesn't match well but I'm over it. Btw... I'd rather paint 8 overalls than one damn engine bay!

The SPI single stage red reminds me of several different colors. GM Victory Red would be what I'd say it is the closest too. But it looks better than Victory Red. Really nice color. We are painting an old Oil Truck for a local Oil Company and have the tank done. Over the last couple of weeks numerous people that have come in the Shop have commented on how much they like the color.

Barry I'll take our camera tomorrow and see what comes up with Axalta. Being that you mentioned it makes me curious now as well.

I did a very informal test with some existing red paint on the Triumph (it was protected by vinyl covering and in pretty good shape against the 3 chips that SPI sent me of their red. The medium was an exact match to my eye out of direct sunlight and maybe just a hair "brighter" in the sun. The "regular" red was way too red, if you know what I mean, and the dark was the opposite, though closer than I thought it would be. So, I went with the medium and we'll see how it looks. At the pace I'm going now, it'll be about 8 years before I'm ready to paint:rolleyes:
