Wanda base.

I think I have about made up my mind to try some Wanda base. One of my concerns is if I should try it on this really nice 55 Chevy I am working own? The car is going to be 2 tone SPI Black on top and very dark blue with a lot of pearl bottom. My next concern is How to paint the lower 2 tone parts off the car (blue) . The entire car is now in SPI black epoxy. What is the best way to go? Jam the parts and then hang them or paint off the car? If I just jam and then hang they will have to be taped up before sealing and base. Could there be lifting issues? Would it work to seal the parts as normal then base the parts and just jam the clear and then hang the parts, scuff and spray more base on all the blue and clear as normal? I guess I am asking what is the best way to paint the blue to have it match and have the least tape lines. Please give your thoughts. Thanks.

The best way to paint the blue to have all the parts match along with the two tone line is to shoot the blue while it's assembled. You can pull it back apart to apply the clear if you don't feel like dealing with masking. Intercoat clear can be shot over the base for a little protection and easier cleanup before clear. IMO, for a two tone metalic or pearl, I would rather deal with the extra labor in masking to shoot the car's sides assembled even if I had to a little paintwork in the doorjambs later.

Agree with Bob on this but also to answer your question about the Wanda, I think its a good choice as it is a very good base.

Thanks guys. If I jam the parts and then hang and scuff before sealer and base do you think there could be any lifting problems of the exterior overspray

I use Wanda base with SPI URO clear on 90% of my collision repairs almost every day and works great. I would add a touch of clear hardner in the base when you do the jams. But have had no problems with out it also.

This can happen with any paint system but I have not had a call about any paint doing this in at least last 5 years, so rare and if it did happen, perhaps buying a lottery ticket that day would have been a good move. LOL
