I'm buying Wanda base coat this week and need to order my other stuff from SPI this week. Can the Wanda base be activated and what reducer should I get? Temperatures will probably be in the low 70's when I paint.

The local supplier called the tech line for me and it can be activated. Should have asked them from the start.

yes for activation. just a little clear catalyst in it is all that is needed. dont use wanda reducer. it sux. use the spi mid or high temp reducer.

Order any quart clear activator from SPI and you can use it to activate the Wanda base. 1 ounce per 32 ounces RTS base. I always use the Production Clear activator for my base. No particular reason why, but it works great.

Thanks guys. I haven’t painted one in seven or eight years and the last one gave me all sorts of problems. Trying my best to get everything right. Seems unusual things seem to happen to me.

One thing to note as well are the flash times, Wanda's tech sheet states pretty quick flash times between coats and to clear. Its beneficial if you have the time to extend them out, I used 20 to 30 minutes between coats of base. When clearing as many hours as possible if coating same day, or overnight before clear.

Like to add, I use Wanda base 70% of the time on collision work rep and works great and will use the Euro activator most times. And yes plenty of flash times. At a open house last week at my jobber and Wanda rep told me Wanda is coming out with a new reducer for the base after the first of year.I use SPI reducer with nice results. Rep said urathane reducer will not work as well???

Chris, I assume RTS is ready to spray? Its in the booth ready for this coming weekend if another hurricane doesn't mess things up.

In Omaha, but who has good prices on Wanda Urethane base. Complete color change on 54 year old truck, inside and out. I have an older paint code that’s a medium metallic copper base, a factory color from a car I owned at a dealership I worked at. Just love the color. Depending on sprayable yield, it may take almost two gallons, inside and out! Not in a hurry. Thanks to all!

I have used Wanda in the past but prefer base coats that mix 1:1 rather than 2:1. Two gallons of RTS is better than 6 quarts in my opinion.
If SPI doesn't have your color consider Automotive Art Motobase LV.
My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Thanks 68 Coronet R/T. I would guess RTS is ready to spray, right. As for the other brands like Auto Art Motobase LV, I’ll have to find it online, not sold in Omaha, NE.
I hope you enjoy 68 Coronet RT, I love those cars. The strangest deal happened to me at 15 just before 16. Apprentice at small home town 2 man shop, me & owner. After we built it, a guy from school, a year older, wanted me to change a 3 Ford in his truck (He ran out of oil) but had a small block replaced with large car motor. I told him nothing fits, mounts, trans, exhaust, etc. He offer $150. Came back 2 weeks later at $200, still NO. Later, he said $250 + car. Ge said some Dodge behind barn. So, lets look at it. Armed with gas, air tank, battery, etc., we drove around his Dads house thru 10’ sunflowers and stopped 10” from hitting it. It was a 68 Dodge Charger, blk over drk blue. 318, auto and console. We got it started but it shook horribly w/RPM. I changed engines, he paid me $250+ parts. I forgot about the car. We got slow and drove it in, raised it up. I found 1/2+ of the huge front crank pulley full of dirt & gravel. Ran off road drunk? Ran smooth and added a long leaf to rear to hold up ( They use (1) 5 foot leaf and this worked great from scrap pile. I dove it for 3 or 4 years, got another car 1976 280Z at the dealer from owner & I was tech. I gave the Charger to my youngest half-brother. He never said thanks and being adopted, never got any of the farm. 1.5 miles square. Have not spoke to any since 82. Pissed, but their loss. My problem. Thanks for info. I can’t get Wanda to point out any midwest dealers. I appreciate your advise. Stay safe, neighbor got covid last Tuesday, 86 and this AM, his son said his blood 02 was 70%. Not good. Lived next door since 93.

Sorry, don’t know what button to push or how things work. + too long mostly. Wish video would show how to use. I do that on Iphone 6, my son sent, but never had cell since company flip phone 11 years ago!

Wish I had a dollar everytime a rep said someone else's product would not work as well :) They are probably coming out with a urethane reducer with hardener in it, would be my guess, for warranty purposes.
What clear do you use over wanda bc/cc? Can you use any clear coat?

I dont know about "any", but I have used lots of SPI Universal Clear over Wanda base with great success. Also I found that SPI reducers work better than the Wanda reducer at much lower cost. Try it, you will love it!

Properly applied base coat doesn't know or care what urethane or polyurethane clear is going over it. Manufacturers always state that their clear must be used over their base but that is to help them sell more product, not because of a conflict in materials. Any of the SPI Clears are excellent choices over the full range of base coats available today. They have been applied with great sucess over nearly every base coat on the market.
