--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today we are making batches of the 2100 clear, the 4000 clear and the 5100 clear.

Nothing new but today day will be the first time that we use FOUR different UV inhibitors in our clears.

This is very costly but something I have been wanting to to for a long time and just had to get testing and my act together.

We are very proud of this and I have no way to verify but ask the manufacturers of the UV and it is my understanding in this industry, two is the norm and no one knows, of anyone using three or four.

Long term results vs money spent??

Who knows, looks like it might give an edge to longer life on reds, oranges and certain blues and should really help the custom cycle type work but no way of really knowing but we do know this it won't hurt and can only help!

I've been very interested in this subject because I have a gallon of red I'll be spraying soon.

I did a little searching to better educate myself before asking a lot of dumb questions.
Found this info interesting: http://www.chemical-supermarket.com/home.php?printable=Y&cat=128

UV additives do not get added by percentages, they are figured by solids, the more solids a clear the more you can add, that is why solids is king.

Solids are the resin and surface tensioners solvents and fillers to make a clear look thick in can don't play in at all.

Also, different UV's are added at different strengths, you might use twice as much of one as another and some you may use a 1/2 of the amount of another.

Its a field in its own self and I have heard every BS story reps can come up with, who don't have a clue.

Translation:

"I ain't tellin'!"

In the total absence of any outfit that performs and releases comparative tests of different refinish products, all we have is the word of the manufacturer as to the longevity of the finish.

The reason I use SPI is that I trust Barry and SPI more than all the other paint companies put together.

There are a number of ways, of course there are the UV farms in AZ and FL or you can buy your own tester and not real expensive, the other way is Ciba one of the or I should say the major manufacturer will do blind tests for you.

Each UV inhibitor has its own light range, scale or map and the trick is expanding that scale to cover the wides band as possible.

Of course the finale test was use it in batches of a couple of clears, to make sure OK with user and we did.

We were planning on only doing this two two clears but decided blending four into two mixed items, the money we would save on labor wiped out the cost of just using it in all the clears, so we did.

This is neat...if by chance i get to refinish high-end super cars, i'd feel
more comfortable using something with better/more UV inhibitors.

The 4000 has had some in for a while, hit and miss as well as 3500.

Now from here on out as of today, 4100, 4000, 5100. 2100, 5000.
