Using SPI black epoxy primer as a black basecoat?

so Im using SPI Black epoxy primer and going to paint the car black in the end so why not just use the black epoxy primer as the basecoat color? resulting in less work, money and time with potentially the same results? Im aware I would reduce the black epoxy to act as a sealer before applying the clear coat, can anyone tell me otherwise why this wouldn't work? I see nothing but CONS on all this?

If you want a seriously deep black finish, then the SPI Black basecoat is the way to go. I used it on a Harley Davidson Ultra Classic and it came out fantastic.

Think of it this way... have you ever noticed how many different blacks there are? Some seem a little blueish, some seem brown, etc etc. Black epoxy isn't made to be the final color, just made to be generally black.

That being said, I've done it on a few small things and haven't had an issue. I used it as a base under some metal flake where you really wouldn't be able to see the difference anyways.

The epoxy as a base will work in the engine compartment or inside the car and underneath BUT on the outside of the car in the sun parked next to a black/black job will look brown shade.

It really only takes one coat of black base to cover black epoxy, so it's better to just do it.
