using guide coat

So I bought some white Merka guide coat to help in the cutting/buffing of my black car. I applied it to a panel that was wet sanded with 800 grit. I worked it into the panel real good to the point of not being able to wipe the guide coat off with my dry hand. I proceeded to wet sand with 1000 (and tried going right to 1500), but the guide coat just washed off before being actually sanded out of the 800 grit scratches. Is guide coat only for coarser grit scratches like 600 or less?

I have not tried the Merka but use 3M regularly and have not had that problem. The only thing is, they don't sell white that I am aware of.

The white Mirka doesn't work near as well as the black, for me at least. I actually like the black better than 3M, but the mess either makes wetsanding caused me to abandon the process of using it on the fine grits.

I've tried them all and I still like spraying a thinned down lacquer primer
the best, I get more lighter even coverage out of my gun,
and it sands real well. Holds up to wet sanding well.
It's easy after spraying primer just to add to your gun for the last coat,
it's probably to much trouble to dirty up a gun for clear coat but
it does work really well and it's cheap like me.
